Explore Saxony's spectacular highlights by steam on a breathtaking journey that travels on three wonderful heritage railways and discover elegant Dresden, our charming base on the banks of the gentle Elbe River.
We meet at our dedicated Departure Office in London St Pancras, where we board the Eurostar to Brussels. From here, we continue to Nuremberg via Cologne, where we overnight.
After a morning at leisure in Nuremberg, we transfer to the station to travel by rail to Dresden, where we check into our hotel here for dinner. Perhaps venture out into the streets and soak up the atmosphere of this sophisticated city before we dine together.
We stay in our base Dresden, the capital of Saxony, where we embark on a guided tour. Dresden was originally a Slav fishing village, but rose to prominence in 1487 when it became the seat of the Duchy of Saxony. Now, it is a thriving Baroque centre, referred to as the 'Florence of the Elbe' due to its beautiful architecture. Upon conclusion, we enjoy a wonderful classical concert in the Zwinger Palace.
Today, we enjoy the first of our heritage steam-hauled journeys in the breathtaking Ore Mountains, After transferring to Cranzahl, we board the Fichtelbergbahn for a picturesque journey over the Hüttenbachtal Viaduct to Oberweisenthal, the highest town in Germany.
Our second heritage railway of the tour awaits today as we journey from Radebuel to Moritzburg on the Lößnitzgrundbahn, a line that opened in 1884 and still runs smoothly today. We arrive into Moritzburg, before continuing to the remarkable Meissen Porcelain Factory, a famous hard-paste porcelain producer with an iconic mark made on each individual ornate work made in the factory.
We embark on a journey on the Weißeritztalbahn, a wonderfully nostalgic steamhauled journey that takes us along the stunning Red Weißeritz valley from Freital- Hainsberg to Kipsdorf.
Today, we bid a fond farewell to lovely Dresden and transfer in First Class rail to Leipzig, where we join the train to Cologne. Here, we overnight. On Day 8, we travel to Brussels. Here, we board the Eurostar back to London.
Provisional departure and return times, where available, can be found together with our dates and prices by clicking on the 'Prices & Availability' button.
