Departure Times

We write to all booked customers approximately 10 weeks prior to the start of their tour to advise the exact departure and return time for their particular group.

Days 1-2

To Colmar and Kandersteg

We meet in St Pancras at our dedicated Departure Office, before taking the Eurostar to Paris. Changing trains, we travel to Colmar. Here you can explore the Christmas Markets on Day 2 before we travel to Kandersteg and spend three nights at the Hotel Victoria.

Days 3-4

Zermatt and at leisure

Today we travel to Zermatt on the narrow-gauge train from Brig, through dramatic valleys to Visp. From here we join the mountain track for the steep ascent to Zermatt, through 8 tunnels and across 42 bridges. In Zermatt you are free to explore the car- free resort. Day 4 is at leisure.

The Glacier Express
Days 5-6

The iconic Glacier Express

On Christmas Eve we travel through the Lötschberg tunnel and over the Kander Viaduct to Brig. Here we board the Glacier Express from the Valais region to the rocky landscapes of the Graubünden canton. We ascend gently up through the Rhône Valley and through the Furka Base Tunnel, climbing past small villages lining our route. We climb steadily then steeply as we make our way up and over the snowy Oberalp Pass - the highest point of our route at 6,670 ft. Finally, we descend into the Rhine Valley, and reach Chur, where we spend four nights at the Hotel Freieck. Christmas Day is at leisure before our Christmas Gala Dinner.

The Bernina Express
Day 7

Over the Bernina Pass

Our Boxing Day excursion takes us on the Bernina Express to Poschiavo. The railway line is over 100 years old and has been awarded with UNESCO World Heritage status. We travel through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges, including the Landwasser Viaduct. Looping and spiralling through the rugged landscape of the Engadine Valley, our ascent takes us through the Albula Tunnel and over the Bernina Pass. In Poschiavo we have time for lunch before making the journey in the opposite direction.

Days 8-10

Lakeside Lucerne and journey home

Today we travel by train to the beautiful town of Lucerne, known for its cobbled streets and ornate churches. Your time here is free. We leave Chur on Day 9 and travel to Cologne, where we overnight. On Day 10 we travel to Brussels and join the Eurostar to London, where your tour concludes.
