Day 2

Discovering Stratford

This morning we embark on a guided tour of Stratford-upon-Avon, the hometown of William Shakespeare. We take in some of the town's most important sites including Shakespeare's birthplace, Harvard house, and Holy Trinity Church - the bard's final resting place - before an afternoon at leisure. You may like to visit Stratford's butterfly farm, a tropical enclosure that lets you experience these delicate creatures close up. We meet for an early dinner ahead of one of the highlights of our tour, an evening at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Day 3

Christmas Eve on the Severn Valley Railway

We head to Kidderminster by coach to board one of the vintage steam-hauled trains of the Severn Valley Railway. Travelling in restored carriages, we make our way through the countryside of Worcestershire and Shropshire on a round trip to Arley. Later we continue to medieval Warwick Castle, built by William the Conqueror in 1068. Here you have time to explore the castle's many exhibits, as well as the gardens and ramparts which offer beautiful views over the wintry landscape. We return to the hotel for a Champagne and canapé reception before dinner. Later you could attend Midnight Mass; sherry and mince pies are available on your return.

Our Boxing Day excursion takes us to Toddington, where we join the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway for a steam-hauled journey through the Cotswolds, accompanied by a mince pie and warming glass of sherry. On our return you could visit Anne Hathaway's cottage on the outskirts of town and which dates back to the 15th century. Mary Arden's house, owned by Shakespeare's grandparents, is also well worth a visit. Tonight we enjoy dinner at the hotel.
