Departure Times

Porto
Days 1-2

London to Porto

Our tour begins with a flight from London to Porto, our base for the next 3 nights. We settle in and enjoy dinner together this evening, beginning our explorations on Day 2 with a guided tour of Porto, the city which was once the very edge of the known world and a port from where daring explorers risked their lives to discover the New World.

Douro Valley
Day 3

The Douro Valley and Taylor’s Cellars

Today we travel by train along the delightful Douro Valley, the scenic region where much of Portugal's famous port wine is produced. Enjoy free time to explore this stunning UNESCO World Heritage site, before returning to Porto for a special dinner at Taylor's Cellars.

Lisbon
Days 4-6

Lisbon by historic tram

Today we travel by First Class rail to Lisbon. On arrival, we enjoy a guided tour of this colourful city by historic tram. Considered to be one of the best ways to explore Lisbon, the iconic tram travels through the highlights of the city, using classic bright yellow carriages. We conclude our tour at Pastéis de Belém, a historic bakery that has made traditional treats since 1837. Day 5 is free, and on Day 6 we visit picturesque Sintra by Standard Class rail.

Funchal
Days 7-8

Madeira and Santana

We leave the mainland behind, with a flight to the archipelago of Madeira. This afternoon, we explore the capital city of Funchal on a guided tour, followed by a tasting of Madeira wine in a local cellar. On Day 8 we explore the villages of Madeira, including attractive Santana, with a local guide.

Funchal Monte Palace Tropican Garden
Days 9-10

Madeira’s Gardens

Today is free to explore at your own pace. On Day 10, we visit the glorious Quinta do Palheiro Gardens, famed for their wide variety of subtropical plants, set in the steep hills above Funchal.

Flights
Days 11-12

Return to London

We return to Lisbon today, where we overnight. On Day 12, we fly back to the UK.

Special Event

Madeira Flower Festival

Experience the best of Madeira's flora, with a visit to the vibrant Madeira Flower Festival included on our April 29th departure. Parading through Funchal with bright displays of flower-covered floats at the time of year when blooms are at their best, the festival celebrates spring with a dedication to the incredible array of flora that grows on the island, owing to a natural climate that sees plant life species from both cold and tropical regions thrive here.
