Days 1-2

Fly to Delhi

Our tour begins today, as we fly to Delhi. Arriving on Day 2, we check into the first of our wonderful hotels, The Claridges. The iconic Claridges offers 5-Star accommodation in the heart of New Delhi, and after settling in, we are treated to a fascinating talk on the history of Rajasthan's palaces.

Gateway to India, Dehli
Day 3

Delhi sightseeing

Today begins with a guided tour of Delhi, as we take in the wonderful sights of this intriguing city. Our tour takes in the Jama Mosque, imposing Humayun's Tomb and the Red Fort, and includes a drive through 'Lutyen's Delhi', for an insight into the region's colonial heritage. This evening, we dine in style at the Orient Express restaurant. With a menu inspired by the countries this iconic line passes through, the restaurant itself is housed in reclaimed heritage carriages from the train.

Taj Mahal
Days 4-5

The Taj Mahal and Dholpur wildlife spotting

We leave Delhi today, travelling by rail to Agra, where on arrival we enjoy a champagne breakfast in the Taj Khema, with views of the Taj Mahal. Our time here includes a visit to the Agra Fort and the unforgettable Taj Mahal, before we make the drive to Dholpur later today. We spend the next two nights at the exquisite Raj Niwas Palace, which dates back to 1876. Day 5 begins with a boat ride on the Chambal River, famously inhabited by a range of wildlife - including gharials, marsh crocodiles and turtles, which we hope to spot during our cruise. This evening, we visit the Machkund Temple, where we witness Aarti, a devotional ceremony of light and fire, used to celebrate the love of, and for, the many Hindu deities. This evening we enjoy a traditional Rajasthani dinner, with a theme of local cuisine, in our glorious palace hotel.

Jaipur, Water Palace
Days 6-7

Gwalior and Jaipur

We make the short train journey to Gwalior today, where we are treated to a tour of the spectacular Jai Vilas Palace Museum. Constructed in 1876, this superb Neo-Classical palace was built to commemorate a visit by the Prince of Wales. During our visit, we explore the exquisite Maharaja Galleries, which feature decadent gilt-work ceilings, and the Durbar Hall, famed for two ornate Belgian chandeliers, which, weighing 7 tonnes each, are thought to be the largest in the world. After time here to admire the artwork and architecture, we have lunch in the Usha Kiran Palace, a former royal home turned hotel, set in 9 acres of beautiful grounds. Later we continue by rail to the 'Pink City' of Jaipur, where on Day 7 we enjoy a guided tour of the main attractions. During our tour, we take in beautiful sights such as the Palace of the Winds, as well as the Amber Fort, and the lively local bazaar.

Days 8-9

Today we take a coach journey to Bikaner, a city famed for its rich local culture of music and art. Established in the late 15th century, Bikaner is known for its red-sandstone houses and the carved façades of its public buildings, some of which we see on a tour of the Old City. As we walk through the maze of ancient streets, we pass a number of havelis, mansions decorated with colourful frescoes. Our hotel for the next two nights is the Laxmi Niwas Palace. Designed in 1896, the palace was once the home of the king of Bikaner district, Maharaja Ganga Singh, who entertained various royal dignitaries and heads of state here in the palace's heyday. On Day 9, we continue to explore Bikaner on a sightseeing tour, taking in the 16th-century Junagarh Fort and the Karni Mater Temple. Dinner today is at Gajner Palace, a stunning resort overlooking Gajner Lake, a wildlife sanctuary.

Days 10-11

Jaisalmer and a camel ride

Today begins with a journey by coach to Jaisalmer, known as the 'Golden City' of India, and once a part of the Silk Route. Following time at leisure here, this evening we enjoy a camel ride across the sand dunes of the Thar Desert. On Day 11, we discover Jaisalmer on a sightseeing tour, taking in its most famous sights, such as the Gadi Sagar Lake and the Jaisalmer Fort. Tonight we enjoy an exclusive al-fresco dinner in the Dunes of Jaisalmer. As the stars shimmer above, we are treated to a performance of folk music and dancing, and a colourful fireworks display.

Day 12

We travel by coach to the 'Blue City' of Jodhpur today, where we check in to the spectacular Ajit Bhawan Palace, a former Maharaja's residence built in 1927. Our time in this fabulous city includes a visit to the Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum, one of the last palaces built in India, and an exclusive visit to the Mehrangarh Fort, where we are treated to a champagne reception and a private tour. Dinner tonight is a traditional Rajasthani meal, which we enjoy along with views over the Mehrangarh Fort and the beautiful Jodhpur skyline.

Lake Pichola
Days 13-14

We travel by coach to Udaipur today, pausing along the way to visit the Ranakpur Jain Temples. Dinner tonight is served on the Sunset Terrace of the Fateh Prakash Hotel. On Day 14, we explore Udaipur further on a sightseeing tour, before returning to Lake Pichola for a boat ride. Later, we enjoy dinner at the Darikhana, an exclusive restaurant housed in an island palace that floats on Lake Pichola.
