Days 1-2

Fly to Lima

We depart London Heathrow and fly via Amsterdam to Lima. Arriving in the late afternoon, we transfer to our home for two nights, the 4-Star Casa Andina Select Miraflores.

On Day 2 we enjoy a guided tour of Peru's thriving capital which takes us into the historic centre of colonial Lima, home to the church of Saint Francis and the impressive cathedral. Later we enjoy a tour of the Larco Herrera Museum, which showcases several thousand years of Peruvian history, followed by lunch.

Days 3-4

To the White City of Arequipa

We depart Lima for the next leg of our adventure, taking an internal flight to Arequipa, a striking white-walled city flanked by three volcanoes. Here we stay in the 4-Star Casa Andina Private Collection Arequipa, and enjoy lunch in a local restaurant. We then take a sightseeing tour that includes the enormous complex of monastic buildings of the Santa Catalina Convent. Day 4 is at leisure.

Day 5

Into Colca Valley

We leave Arequipa this morning, travelling into the National Reserve of Pampa Cañahuas, where we hope to see some delightful llamas. Our journey takes us up to Volcanoes Pass, where there are amazing views across the Andes Mountains.

Our destination is the Colca Valley, isolated in the heart of the mountains. We stay for two nights at the Colca Lodge, and our afternoon arrival allows time for you to enjoy a local mountain walk, or simply to relax and enjoy the hotel's thermal baths.

Day 6

Condors at Colca Canyon

We travel to Colca Canyon, home to the legendary condor, the bird with the largest wingspan in the world. We stop at the 'Mirador Cruz del Condor', the perfect viewpoint from which to spot these magnificent creatures soaring on the thermal air currents.

Day 7


This morning we continue across the Altiplano landscape to Puno, maintaining an average altitude of 4,500m on a spectacular journey that takes us past the bright-blue Lagunillas Lake and the city of Juliaca. We visit the Sillustani Necropolis, a fascinating archaeological site, where we enjoy a guided tour. We continue to Puno, located on the shores of the immense Lake Titicaca 3,800m above sea level. We stay at the 4-Star Casa Andina Private Collection Puno.

Day 8

Lake Titicaca

Today we enjoy a full-day excursion on incredible Lake Titicaca. We cruise across the lake to the Uros floating islands where we continue to Taquile, one of the lake's biggest islands and home to the Aymara, a Spanish-speaking people who live in an almost economically-autonomous community. Our excursion ends as we sail back to Puno, watching the sunset.

Day 9

Andean Explorer to Cusco

We spend today on one of South America's most iconic trains, the Andean Explorer, travelling north-west on the route of the Pan-American Highway. During the 10-hour journey we pause at Raya, the highest point on the route, to visit a local handicraft market. We then reach Cusco, capital of the Inca Empire, where we stay at the 4-Star Casa Andina Private Collection Cusco.

Day 10

Sightseeing in Cusco

Our sightseeing tour of Cusco takes us to Plaza de Armas, in the historic centre, surrounded by colonial buildings and dominated by its Cathedral. We also visit the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, and the Temple of Koricancha - a site of worship for the Incas, and once the home of 4,000 priests.

Day 11

Machu Picchu

Our journey today takes us to the highlight of the tour as we travel on the scenic rail route to Aguas Calientes to visit the 'Lost City of the Incas': Machu Picchu. A winding bus ride takes us all the way up to the city itself, where we are greeted by one of the most incredible sights in the world. Our local guide explains the fascinating history of this awe-inspiring site that was forgotten for 400 years and remained undiscovered until 1911. Machu Picchu is now a UNESCO World Heritage site, and we stay here for one night at the El MaPi Hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Day 12

Ollantaytambo and time at leisure

This morning take the train to Ollantaytambo and enjoy lunch on arrival in the hotel. Your afternoon is then at leisure which gives you the opportunity to explore the area further.

Day 13


Today we visit Ollantaytambo village by coach, an Inca fortress and Chinchero local market, here we see a fascinating wood weaving demonstration. Your afternoon is at leisure.

Day 14

The Sacred Valley of the Incas

This morning visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas and stop at Pisac, a Peruvian village - famous for its markets. We also see the Inty Huatana temple and spend time with Andean Camels at Avanacancha. Your afternoon is at leisure in Cusco.

Flying home
Days 15-16

Cusco to London

We leave Peru today, flying first to Lima and then on to London Heathrow via Amsterdam. We arrive on Day 16.
