Day 2

MV Lord of the Glens

This morning we transfer to the railway station, where we board the train for a journey on the Kyle Line to Kyle of Lochalsh. This is one of the most scenic railway lines in Europe, climbing over the highlands and passing numerous lochs as we traverse from east coast to west coast. On arrival in Kyle of Lochalsh, your Tour Manager bids you farewell as we board the luxury MV Lord of the Glens. After settling in to your cabin, we enjoy the Captain's Welcome Reception and dinner on board.

Isle of Skye
Day 3

The Isle of Skye

After enjoying our first sumptuous breakfast on board, we cross to the Isle of Skye. The majestic, rocky Cuillin Mountains, rising steeply from the sea, are the feature for which the island is possibly most famous. The jagged bare rock mountains tower over the smaller settlements along the coastline. We take an excursion into the Cuillin Mountains and charming Portree, the largest town on Skye. Later in the day we visit the Clan Donald Centre and Gardens before we sail to the town of Inverie, located on Loch Nevis. We moor at Inverie for the night, giving you chance to have a drink at the Old Forge - the remotest pub in Great Britain.

Day 4

This morning we sail around Ardnamurchan Point, the most westerly point of mainland Britain. We reach Eigg, a tiny island dominated by "an Sgurr", a dramatic pitchstone ridge. The island is well known for being surrounded by marine animals and birds, including minke whales, dolphins, porpoises and a wide variety of seabirds. After exploring Eigg, we sail into the Sound of Mull towards Tobermory, on the delightful Isle of Mull, the second largest of the Inner Hebrides. The route takes us past the dramatic scenery of Scotland's west coast, with views of untouched moorland sloping down to jagged rock faces on the shore. We then arrive in Tobermory, the capital of the Isle of Mull, located in the north of the island. The fishing port is most recognisable for the gaily painted houses that line the waterfront of the sheltered bay. We moor here for the night, giving you the opportunity to explore Tobermory and its pretty harbour.

  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5

This morning we sail along the Isle of Mull to Craignure. From here we have an excursion to the beautiful Isle of Iona. Hidden from the mainland and only accessible from Mull, Iona is an unspoilt island of pristine beaches and wild terrain. Steep, rocky hills rise sharply behind the few houses of Iona's main settlement, Baile Mor - 'big town' in Gaelic - really no more than a small village or hamlet. Later we return to Craignure, where we moor for the night.

  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Duart Castle
Day 6

Duart Castle and Neptune’s Staircase

This morning we visit Duart Castle, the ancestral home of the Maclean Clan, which dates back to the 13th century. We leave our mooring at Craignure later in the day, sailing along the length of Loch Linnhe to Corpach, located at the entrance to the Caledonian Canal. Our journey along the canal begins with an ascent through Neptune's Staircase - an impressive flight of eight locks operated by a team of at least three lock keepers. The ascent raises the vessel 103 feet to Banavie, where we moor for the night.

Day 7

Caledonian Canal to Loch Ness

Today we enter Loch Lochy - Scotland's third deepest loch. After making our way through Laggan Locks, we continue along the tree-lined canal known as Laggan Avenue. We continue past Loch Oich to Fort Augustus, a village on Loch Ness, where we disembark MV Lord of the Glens for a fantastic excursion on the West Highland Line to Glenfinnan. This glorious journey provides a breathtaking snapshot of the wonderfully scenic highland region.

Day 8

Across Loch Ness to Inverness

This morning we cross the tranquil, mystical Loch Ness, famous for its 'monster' and its outstanding beauty. We cruise past Urquhart Castle, still an impressive sight on the shores of Loch Ness despite its ruinous state. The final leg of our cruise takes us across Loch Dochfour and into Inverness. This afternoon we enjoy a fascinating excursion to Culloden, the site of the battlefield where "Bonnie Prince Charlie" and his forces were defeated. We also visit the ancient standing stones of the Clava Cairns. This evening we enjoy the Captain's farewell reception and dinner on board, spending the night moored in Inverness.

Day 9

The journey home

After breakfast on board MV Lord of the Glens, we disembark the ship for the final time. Perhaps explore Inverness further before you return home; the city boasts historic buildings and many charming shops.
