Day 2

Hamelin Christmas Market

Today we travel to Hamelin, a beautifully preserved town best known for its connections with the Brothers Grimm fairytale 'The Pied Piper of Hamelin'. There are numerous half-timbered houses with richly decorated gables, set out on a network of attractive narrow cobbled streets. Dating back to 851 AD, Hamelin is a very handsome town on the River Weser, complete with many ornate wooden carvings and even several remnants of its medieval wall and fortress. On arrival we are met by the 'Pied Piper' himself for a guided tour of the town and its quaint, half-timbered buildings. Following the tour you are free to explore Hamelin and its charming Christmas Markets. Held in the Old Town, the decorated stalls offer a range of gifts and local delicacies.

Hanover Christmas Market

Your day is at leisure; perhaps explore using your free public transport ticket provided by the hotel. Maybe visit Herrenhausen, former seat of Hanover's Royal family or the stunning castle-like New City Hall, which is surrounded by the Masch Park. At this time of year, the city's main attraction is the Christmas Market. The Old Town is brilliantly illuminated, transforming the centre into a festive wonderland.

Day 4

Bremen and its Christmas Market

Today's excursion takes us to the magnificent city of Bremen, with a full day to explore. We begin our visit with 'Kaffee und Kuchen', or coffee and cake, in a traditional Bremen café, after which our local guide introduces the highlights of the proud, free Hanseatic city. Among the city's many attractions are the impressive Town Hall, the ornate cathedral and the narrow winding streets of the Old Town. Following the tour you are free to explore. The statue of the Bremen Town Musicians - commemorating the Brothers Grimm fairytale of the same name - is well worth a visit, as is the Christmas Market, held in the main square.
