Day 1

To Stavanger

We fly from London to Stavanger via Oslo today, transferring by coach to our hotel on arrival.

Lysefjord Norway
Day 2

Lysefjord and Flor & Fjære

Today we experience some of the best natural environments Norway has to offer as we take to the water at Lysefjord, where we board our ship. Lysefjord is so named because of the 'light' colour of the granite rocks that furnish its sides. We sail serenely on its waters and our boat slows down as we pass famous Pulpit Rock. The rock's near-flat top makes it a popular vantage point for hikers and photographers. This evening we take to the water once more as we visit Flor & Fjære, situated on a small island close to Stavanger. The remarkable thing about the gardens here is the way exotic, brightly coloured plants have thrived despite the windswept environment. The island is a tranquil escape from city life and as such is as popular with Norwegians as it is with tourists. After free time to spend admiring the garden, we enjoy a buffet dinner together.

  • Breakfast, Dinner
  • Lysefjord cruise
Day 3

Hardangerfjord and Karmøy Viking centre

We take a spectacular coach journey today from Stavanger to Ullensvang, stopping at Karmøy's Viking Centre. Here we are immersed in the history and culture of Norway and learn more about the Vikings. Afterwards we pass Hardangerfjord before we check into the Hotel Ullensvang, where we stay in fjord-view rooms.

  • Breakfast, Dinner
  • Excursion to Karmøy’s Viking Centre
Day 4

Steinstø Fruit Farm

We take another scenic coach ride today from Ullensvang to Bergen. Along the way we stop at the popular Steinstø Fruit Farm, which looks out over the waters of Hardangerfjord. This traditional Norwegian fruit farm provides us with a delightful place to enjoy lunch as we take in the scenic surrounding countryside. The farm has been run by the same family for 9 generations, and only in the past 15 years have tourist groups been catered for. We are treated to a guided tour of the orchard, during which we learn about the past and present farming methods employed here. Our lunch includes a Hardanger cider tasting and a chance to sample the farm's famous apple cake. Following lunch you will have chance to purchase some of the homemade produce from the farm's shop. After our time at the farm we continue by coach to Bergen.

  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Cider tasting
Day 5

Sightseeing in Bergen

This morning we take a half-day coach tour of attractive Bergen. Surrounded by mountains and fjords, this city is certainly easy on the eye. We visit Troldhaugen, Edvard Grieg's former home which is now a museum. Grieg lived here for the last 22 years of his life from 1885 with his wife Nina. The villa and composer's hut both provide an excellent insight into the man's life. Following our time here you are free to explore Bergen at your leisure. Be sure to visit the wharf, 'Bryggen' - a site of cultural significance.

Day 6

The Bergen Railway and fjord cruise

We take the spectacular Bergen Railway today to Voss. This railway line connects Oslo and Bergen and is considered to be one of the best in Norway, as well as one of the most scenic in the world.

We travel through western Norway in the comfort of our carriages as the dramatic Norwegian landscape passes by. We arrive in Voss and transfer to Gudvangen for our fjord cruise to Flåm. We cross the beautiful Nærøyfjord, which is surprisingly narrow but no less spectacular for it. The fjord has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. On arrival we take a short walk to our hotel in Flåm for one night.

Days 7-8

The Flåm Railway

We take the spectacular Flåm Railway to Myrdal today. The journey takes us up into the mountains on one of the steepest railway lines in the world. Along the way we stop at Myrdal Station, a mountain railway station that sits 867 metres above sea level, boasting sublime views. We continue our journey by descending towards Oslo. On arrival we continue to our hotel, the Thon Hotel Opera for one night. On Day 8 we take the train to Gothenburg in Sweden, checking into the Clarion Hotel Post on arrival.

  • Breakfast, Dinner
Day 9

Exploring Gothenburg & a dinner cruise

The second largest city in Sweden, Gothenburg was founded in 1621, and is home to the biggest port in the Nordic countries. We spend our morning on a sightseeing tour, enjoying the main attractions of this vibrant city. This afternoon we enjoy time at leisure to explore the city further. Be sure to see the Gothenburg Botanical Garden which is home to 16,000 species, all in different areas that include greenhouses, a rock garden and a herb garden. The Garden is home to a rare Easter Island tree which is extinct in its natural environment. Alternatively you could visit 'Haga', one of Gothenburg's oldest neighbourhoods which is now alive with a number of independent shops and cafés.

This evening we embark upon a memorable dinner cruise along the winding waterways of the River Göta. The ship sails by meadows, cliffs and idyllic farmland while you enjoy the on board a la carte menu. Your cruise ends in Gothenburg's attractive harbour.

Days 10-11

To Copenhagen and Sightseeing

We continue by rail to Copenhagen today and cross the Øresund Bridge before arriving in Denmark's capital. The bridge is the largest combined rail and road bridge in Europe, and its striking architecture is a joy to see. Connecting Copenhagen with the Swedish city of Malmö, the bridge's underwater foundations also provide an artificial reef for marine life. On arrival we transfer to our hotel. After time to settle in we enjoy dinner at the Tivoli Gardens.
