About the tour

The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express is arguably one of the finest quality rail experiences offered anywhere in the world. Whilst the route is noted for its diverse, ever-changing and often spectacular landscapes, the Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express also visits many special destinations including Irkutsk, an historic city as famed for its distinctive wooden architecture and Lake Baikal on its way from Vladivostok to Moscow.

Itinerary

Day 1 - To Vladivostok

Fly to Vladivostok, via Moscow.

Day 2 - Boarding the Trans-Siberian Express

After arriving in Vladivostok, you join the Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express to begin your fabulous adventure to Moscow.

Day 3 - Vladivostok

A military city situated on the shore of the Sea of Japan, Vladivostok only recently opened to Western visitors. It shows a fascinating blend of both European and Asian cultures. Vladivostok is a key Russian port, but actually belonged to China until relatively recently. Learn more about the city on today's guided tour.

Day 4 - Khabarovsk

Khabarovsk is you port of call today, an attractive city with a cosmopolitan feel possessing a wealth of museums, unspoilt parks and historic squares. Khabarovsk is the second largest city in Khabarovsk Krai, a federal region in easternmost Russia, and lies just nineteen miles from the country's border with China.

Day 5 - Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express

Today the train will reach the most easterly point of its journey and as we head towards the Pacific coast.

Day 6 - Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express

Today it follows the Shilka and Amur Rivers close to the Chinese border. The route takes you across an area of permafrost, as remote as it is dramatic.

Day 7 - Ulaanbaatar

Disembark in Mongolia, in Ulaanbaatar, set in a sweeping valley surrounded by four sacred peaks of the Khentii range. Passing the Genghis Khan monument, visit the National Museum before enjoying lunch in a traditional yurts.

Day 8 - Ulan Ude

Today's stop is Ulan Ude, the capital of the Buryat Republic. Here you can visit the Old Believer's Village, where there is the opportunity to learn about the culture and history of these religious people as you are treated to a traditional meal and enjoy a concert featuring local musicians and dancers.

Day 9 - Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express through Siberia

Experience one of the true highlights of your journey through Siberia today as the Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express skirts the shores of vast Lake Baikal, the largest freshwater lake in the world. Here you'll visit the small village of Listvyanka, nestled at the foot of the surrounding hills, and enjoy a barbecue dinner on the lakeside that includes freshly smoked fish.

Day 10 - Irkutsk

Today you'll arrive in Irkutsk, founded by Cossacks. One of the largest and best-known cities in Siberia, it takes its name from the nearby Irkut River, and is affectionately known as 'the Paris of Siberia'. Much of the city's cultural heritage originates from the Decembrists, a group of exiled rebels. Many of their wooden houses have survived, and during a sightseeing tour you'll take in the fascinating wood-carved architecture as well as visit the city's most significant sights and museums, including the Decembrist House Museum.

Day 11 - At leisure on board the Trans-Siberian Express

Spend today on board the train, enjoying the passing scenery as you travel through the Sayan Mountains.

Day 12 - Novosibirsk

Alight in Novosibirsk today, the capital of Siberia, for a guided tour of the city's sights, including the Opera House. The performing arts are an important part of both the city and Siberia, and the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre is the largest building of its kind in Russia. Built in 1944, the magnificent structure has been a key symbol of the city ever since. Due to its importance, it's even been nicknamed the 'Siberian Colosseum' and is a much-loved attraction of both Novosibirsk and Siberia.

Day 13 - Yekaterinburg

Today you will cross the Europe-Asia divide and arrive in Yekaterinburg, founded in 1723 by Peter the Great. Here visit the site where the Romanov family, headed by Tsar Nicholas II, was murdered in 1918, now marked by a church dedicated to their memory.

Day 14 - Kazan

Stop in Kazan today, the capital of Tatarstan on the River Volga. The city is renowned for its ornate buildings, including the colourful onion-domed cathedral, the inspiring Kul Sharif Mosque in the grounds of the impressive Kazan Kremlin, and the classical style buildings of the university. Sit down to a farewell meal on board this evening.

Day 15 - Moscow

After travelling across 11 time zones and over 8,000 train miles, your epic journey concludes today, as the Trans-Siberian Express arrives in Moscow. Take a tour of the city before transferring to your hotel for one night.

Day 16 - Return home

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to London.
