Become bewitched by the sparkling beauty of Scotland, on a trip that will enthrall the eyes in the wilds of this wonderful country. From your base in Pitlochry, discover some of the Highland's most wonderful scenes and castles, on a delightful adventure that showcases the best of the country in the autumn season.
Meet your Tour Manager at your hotel in Edinburgh today, where we enjoy our first dinner together. After breakfast on Day 2, we transfer to Edinburgh Waverly for our journey up to Pitlochry.
On the way, we cut through the middle of Scotland, watching as the gently undulating hills of the lowlands turn to the dramatic and awe-inspiring mountains of the Highlands. Pitlochry is located right at the edge of the Cairngorms National Park, which is absolutely full of high peaks, atmospheric moorlands, and peaceful lochs.
Our explorations of Scotland begin in earnest today, with a trip to Blair Atholl, in which resides the beautiful Blair Castle. This lovely structure is located close to Pitlochry, and the whitewashed walls and fanciful turrets inspire images of fairy-tale castles. Inside, it showcases the best of traditional Scottish living, with a room that is absolutely covered in deer antlers, homage to Scotland's hunting past. This afternoon is free to enjoy Pitlochry, and this evening, we enjoy an early dinner in the hotel ahead of an incredible highlight of our trip.
We board a shuttle bus from outside our hotel and venture to the ethereal Enchanted Forest. The knotted trees and atmospheric bridges are illuminated at night with a myriad of colours, truly giving credence to the myths and legends of fae folk around Scotland. Enjoy free time here to enjoy the spectacle, before returning back to the hotel this evening.
Transfer to Aviemore today, a small town located close to the mighty Cairngorm Mountain. We begin our time here with a trip on the Strathspey Steam Railway, which showcases the best of the scenery by the eponymous River Spey, then there is some free time. After, we travel to Cairngorm for a ride on the Cairngorm Mountain Railway, Britain's only funicular railway. As you ascend the mountain, the glory of the Cairngorms National Park is unveiled.
No trip to Scotland would be complete without sampling the national drink, and today we enjoy a 'wee dram' at Tomatin Distillery. On our way, we enjoy the scenic route through the Cairngorms National Park, and partake in a fascinating guided tour around the distillery. After breakfast on Day 6, we transfer back to the station to travel by rail back to Edinburgh. On arrival, our tour ends.
