Day 1 - London to Washington D.C.

Our tour begins with a flight from London Heathrow to Washington D.C., the capital of the United States. This iconic city plays host to some of America's early historical sights, and offers a fabulous introduction to American culture. On arrival, we check into the Omni Shoreham hotel, our 4-Star base near Woodley Park with excellent transport links to the city centre.

Day 2 – Discovering Washington D.C.

We begin our explorations on Day 2 with a city tour which takes in the most important buildings of the US government, including Capitol Hill, the largest historical residential district in Washington and instantly recognisable thanks to the distinctive Capitol Building. Many of these marvellous buildings are constructed in an impressive neoclassical style, lending a grand and elegant feeling to the hallowed streets of D.C.

Day 3 – At leisure in Washington D.C.

Today is free for you to continue exploring the city at leisure. With it being nearly Christmas, the city is lit up in beautiful reds, greens and golds, with Christmas trees in many shop windows. Perhaps soak in the cheerful atmosphere, or visit some of the city's lesser-known sights and attractions which you may not have seen on the tour.

Day 4 - Exploring New York

This morning we embark on our first Amtrak trip of the holiday, as we make our way to New York. On arrival we take a sightseeing tour of the city, visiting 'Big Apple' icons including the dazzling Fifth Avenue, famous for its wealth of high-end shops and regal buildings. We also visit the oasis of Central Park, which offers a tranquil haven from the hustle and speed of the 'city that never sleeps'. In what is a very special highlight for the tour and the year, your tour includes tickets to Christmas Eve NYC Orchestra, playing at the iconic and majestic Carnegie Hall.

Day 5 – New York at Leisure

You are at leisure on Day 5 for you to explore this wonderful city further at your own pace. The Christmas period is one of the most wonderful times to visit the New York, which features some of the most spectacular light shows in the whole country. A popular seasonal pastime can be enjoyed in the special environs of Central Park, where talented ice skaters skate along ice rinks which are put up at this time of year. You may also wish to use this opportunity to catch a Broadway show in the nearby Theater District for some typical New York entertainment. We also sit down to a resplendent Christmas lunch, trying out classic American Christmas foods and relaxing into the cheerful festive atmosphere.

Day 6 - Niagara Falls

We leave the bustle of New York behind today, as we board Amtrak's Empire service to Buffalo. From here, we transfer by coach to Niagara Falls, crossing the border into Canada en-route. With free time here, this is the perfect opportunity to witness the spectacular Niagara Falls from a different country - often regarded as the more picturesque view, and a popular vantage-point for photographers.

Day 7 - Toronto

We begin our journey to Toronto today, pausing at Niagara-on-the-Lake. Niagara-on-the-Lake is a charming little town sat on the shores of the great Lake Ontario. With its leafy squares still lit up with Christmas lights, you have some time here to explore. On arrival in Toronto later, we take a guided city tour of this marvellous city and Ontario's beloved capital, seeing such sights as the city hall and the world-famous CN Tower.

Day 8 – Exploring Toronto

Enjoy free time to explore at your own pace today. Toronto is a city made up of a variety of cultures, all leaving their own imprint on the streets and squares. You may wish to visit the Royal Ontario Museum which covers the history of the region and contains a variety of fascinating nature exhibitions. Alternatively, spend some time in some of the city's charming parks such as Queen's Park or the High Park.

Days 9-10 - Return to London

Enjoy some free time this morning, before we transfer to Toronto airport for our flight home, landing in London on Day 10, where your tour concludes.
