Day 2

Exploring Berlin and its Christmas Markets

We begin exploring the once-divided German capital on a fascinating guided tour. We see the Brandenburg Gate, one of Berlin's most iconic sights, continuing to the Reichstag and Charlottenburg Palace, before taking in remnants of the Berlin Wall. The rest of your day is at leisure - the perfect opportunity to acquaint yourself with Berlin's Christmas Markets. With sixty around the city, you will be spoilt for choice. Each market encompasses its own theme, from the Market of the Continents featuring crafts and delicacies from all over the world to Nordic-themed markets to the more traditional German markets with wooden cabins and the scent of glühwein - there truly is something for everyone.

Day 3

Dresden and its Christmas Market

Today we travel by coach to Dresden, so beautiful that it is known as the 'Florence of the Elbe'. Rich in culture and architectural treasures, you are at leisure in Dresden to soak up the festive atmosphere. Be sure to admire attractions including the Frauenkirche, which was painstakingly rebuilt following its total destruction in World War II, the lavish Semper Opera House and the beautiful Baroque Zwinger Palace. Dresden is also the proud home of the historic 'Striezelmarkt' - dating back to 1434, it is Germany's oldest Christmas Market. Bedecked with twinkling Christmas lights and quaint wooden stands selling all manner of traditional, locally-made crafts and enticing delicacies, the Striezelmarkt is a delight to explore. Be sure to try Hefestriezel, a German crumb cake from which the market takes its name.
