“Great trip with many things to see and do Chicago a highlight for us - would prefer either 2 nights in Las Vegas or LA not one in both - San Francisco hotel was a massive disappointment compared to others on trip - and was somewhat of a let down to the end of the trip -Grand Canyon day was immense

Grand Tour of Vietnam and Cambodia

“Local Tour Guides for both Vietnam and Cambodia were excellent. Hotels/ boat at Halon Bay were also very good in all the places that we stayed. Not enough time at some places to explore. The Great Rail Journey guide ( Caroline) was also very good (friendly, approachable). She had to cope with a broken ankle that happened to one of the tour members (half way down a motorway at a service stop on day 2). Possibly a bit more help for her when these things happened (training /local contacts). We had one problem with Cambodia Visas. We obtained them from the Cambodia Embassy in the UK before we went on holiday based on the border crossing given in the itinerary. This was changed and we had to pay again for both our visas as they were not valid for that particular crossing (an extra $60) The procedures for dealing with luggage on and off coaches/ hotels etc like our previous Great Rail Journey in India were excellent. A slightly smaller group might have helped. A few on the group wanted to change some aspects of the prearranged trips which must have been very annoying for both the local guides and Caroline Overall a very good holiday and a good introduction to Vietnam and Cambodia. “Overall the holiday was great and an experience not to be missed. The tour was full on with some time to explore on your own it could do with a slightly longer stay a few days into the tour to allow travellers to catch their breath and make readt for the rest. As there are many sights to consider and we experienced a lot. Some items that I thought should be included and that were not are: Fushimi Inari Temple and Toji gates, Osaka Castle and a Sake tasting. However I was able to visit these during 'free time' and of course managed to sample the Sake! Another key experience was the 'Traditional Arts Performance' at Gion Corner in Osaka which a few of the group did independently. Whilst this tour does cater for rail enthusiasts it is not focused on the railways. I was the only rail enthusiast on the tour (a bit dissapointing). I was able to travel on 3 key railways and visit the railway museum at Kyoto, although I had to leave the tour to fully appreciate it. This was not an issue as the museum was the last stop and the hotel was only a 10 min walk along the mainline. As a taster to experience Japan its an excellent tour. It is full on. The Japanese people are friendly and polite, the culture and history is incredible and the food is excellent.

“A trip of a musical lifetime, from hillbilly, blue grass, traditional country, country rock and onto the blues soul r&b and even touching on rap. Atmosphere was electric in the streets of Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans. Together with JD distillery, Martin Luther King Graceland, a paddle steamer ride and Houston Space centre, there was something for all tastes, and the creole and Cajun food was delicious.
