Escorted Rail Tours to Zaanse Schans
Take a step back in time to the 18th century Netherlands
Zaanse Schans is delightful old hamlet on the banks of the River Zaan with characteristic green wooden houses, charming stylised gardens, small hump-backed bridges, tradesmen's workshops, historic windmills and engaging little shops. The enchanting hamlet gives an excellent impression of how a typical Zaanse village must have looked like in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Although it is a conservation area, Zaanse Schans is fully inhabited, with authentic houses, a historic shipyard, a pewter factory, a cheese and dairy farm, an age-old grocery store, clog-making demonstrations, and lots of windmills.
