St Mammès is the starting point on a selection of our Seine cruises. This small town is ideally situated at the Seine's confluence with the River Loing. Thanks to this strategic location, the town quickly became one of the leading centres of river traffic in the region - particularly as much of the freight was bound for nearby Paris. The town grew around this industry, and its fortunes have always been linked to its waterside location.
With the coming of the railways, the inland waterways saw a sharp decline in business. Many of these mariner communities were decimated, but St Mammès instead became a hub for riverboats, as its idyllic surroundings had now been noticed. It has been delighting tourists looking to explore its beautiful quay and network of narrow streets ever since.
