This evening we head for one of the tapas bars for a tapas-tasting meal together. We spend three nights at the Melia Granada Hotel.
We continue our sightseeing today with a visit to Spain's most spectacular and iconic monument, the Alhambra, which was once the residence of the Muslim Kings of Granada. The Alhambra sits proudly on a plateau overlooking Granada, with the high Sierra Nevada as its backdrop.
Dating back to the 9th century, the palace complex now boasts UNESCO World Heritage Site status and is one of Spain's most iconic monuments. Originally a small fortress, the Sultan of Granada converted the building in the early 14th century, into the stunning architectural wonder we know today. We finish our tour at a traditional restaurant, where we enjoy lunch together.
Today we continue our exploration of Granada with a sightseeing tour, visiting the Albayzin area, which boasts fantastic views of the Alhambra and retains the narrow winding streets of its medieval past. A very well balanced itinerary showcasing five beautiful towns and cities in Spain. High quality hotels and some excellent restaurant meals, including a memorable dinner on a terrace looking out over the Alhambra Palace in Granada. Our tour manager, Dr Ruth Morgan was first class.
Excellent tour, hotels, tour manager and beautiful places,
Hectic but a wonderful tour. Visits to Madrid, Seville, Granada, Córdoba and Barcelona. Tour manager and local guides superb. Highlight the Alhambra at Granada.
Especially knowledgeable, competent and friendly tour manager.
Ate far too late for our comfort. Didn't like the treatment of the horses at the Royal School of Equestrian Art.
Food not good enough for tour price.
Roger was afirst-rate tour manager. The journeys went smoothly and the trains were comfortable. We saw some wonderful places and there was a reasonable balance between organised activities and free time.
One of the best tours we've ever had! The tour guide was brilliant, very well organised, helpful, knowledgeable and cheerful. We saw amazing places with excellent local guides and a good balance of free time. We had delicious meals in local restaurants, giving us a taste of the culture. The trains were super too!
The tour was well planned and all the various train journeys went well. All the guides used for the city tours spoke very well and had a lot of knowledge. We enjoyed the Spanish food very much and had many excellent and different meals. It was disappointing that two of the train journeys had to be made by coach because of work on the lines but there was financial compensation for that.
Overall experience was good. The tour was well structured, the travel arrangements worked well. However the guided tours were variable in quality and some did not have an audio facility which meant that in a group of 35 it was inevitable that some of the guide’s commentary was lost. The standard of hotels was generally good, except for the hotel in Barcelona which was not 4* standard. The meals were also variable, ranging from excellent to adequate.
Enjoy a feast of cultural Spanish delights by train
