Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel, Chattanooga

The Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel is conveniently situated in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. It is partly housed in the town's historic former railway station, which was opened by Southern Railway in 1909. The station closed when the last train stopped in Chattanooga in 1970 but the building was saved from demolition by a group of local business men who invested money into the building's renovation and opened its doors as a hotel in 1973. The hotel gets its name from the small wood burning steam locomotive that used to pass through Chattanooga on its journey south from Cincinnati. Named the 'Chattanooga Choo Choo' by a local newspaper reporter, the locomotive was made famous by the Glen Miller Orchestra when it became the subject of one of their songs in the 1940s. The hotel boasts a number of different caf├ęs and restaurants; one of the restaurants is housed in the railway station's former baggage room, whilst another two restaurants are in renovated railway carriages. The hotel also has a selection of shops, a model railroad and leisure facilities including a fitness room, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools and a whirlpool. The rooms are spacious and facilities include a coffee maker and hairdryer.
