Escorted Rail Tours to Prince Rupert

Relax in scenic Prince Rupert

Named after Prince Rupert of the Rhine (a nephew of King Charles I), the charming town of Prince Rupert - like much of Kaien Island - was virtually uninhabited until relatively recently. The town grew almost entirely around the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, which arrived in March 1910. Its general manager, Charles Hays, opted to build the terminus on the island as he felt it had huge potential as a port.

Sadly, Hays perished in the Titanic disaster of 1912, but his plans were nonetheless carried out and Prince Rupert grew into a bustling fishing port. The pretty island began to develop as a tourist attraction. Enjoying a mild climate, Prince Rupert boasts lush greenery and wonderfully scenic surroundings, along with a collection of fascinating museums. With much to recommend it, the town and the island have been a perennially popular attraction for almost a century.
