The 'First Passage to the West', 'Rainforest to Gold Rush' and 'Journey through the Clouds' routes on the Rocky Mountaineer
Travelling aboard the Rocky Mountaineer is a trip of a lifetime. The entire journey takes place during daylight hours to ensure passengers are able to enjoy the breathtaking scenery on a journey which explores Canada's West and the mountains and canyons of the Rockies. The journey recaptures the romance of rail travel as it follows the historic train route constructed over 100 years ago.
The 'First Passage to the West' route featured on our Rockies & Alaska Cruise (2011) and Canada & the Rocky Mountaineer tour takes passengers from Banff to Vancouver (and vice versa) via Kamloops, at the junction of the Fraser and Thompson Rivers. On departure from Banff, the train travels through the wild landscape of Banff National Park and after crossing the Continental Divide, it descends through spiral tunnels to the glaciers and snowsheds Rogers Pass. We then continue west through the ranchlands alongside the South Thompson river towards Kamloops, where we spend the night. The next morning our journey continues into the spectacular Fraser Canyon, following the Thompson River to the thundering waters of Hell's Gate. We pass the peaks of the Coast Mountains and travel through the Fraser Valley as we travel towards our destination, the coastal city of Vancouver.
The 'Rainforest to Gold Rush' is a magnificent route featured on our Whistler & the Rocky Mountaineer tour which takes passengers from Jasper to Whistler and vice versa, with an overnight break in the journey in the town of Quesnel. Soon after leaving Jasper we pass Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies and continue through the awe-inspiring Rocky Mountain Trench and the dense forests of northern British Columbia to Quesnel. On day two we follow the course of the Fraser River towards the vast ranchlands of the Cariboo Gold Rush region and the Fraser Canyon. The Anderson and Seton lakes are also highlights of the trip as we make our way towards the ski resort of Whistler.
The 'Journey through the Clouds' route featured
on our Rockies & Alaska Cruise (2012) and The
Rockies & Western Canada tours connects Vancouver,
Kamloops and Jasper. From Vancouver, the Rocky Mountaineer takes
its passengers through the farmlands of the Fraser Valley, and
offers wonderful views of the spectacular Coast Mountains. The
train enters Fraser Canyon and travels past Hell's Gate and
alongside the Thompson River to Kamloops. The following day, the
journey continues through the Monashee Mountains and past
the impressive glaciers of the Albreda Icefields. The iconic
peak of Mount Robson is another landmark on our journey before we
arrive in Jasper.
Please note - on some tours we travel this route in reverse, i.e.
we begin in Jasper and end in Vancouver.
Whichever route you take, views of glacier-fed lakes, majestic mountains ranges and ferocious rivers await. The charismatic on-board service attendants ensure your every whim is met, whilst their encyclopaedic knowledge of the railway and the scenery you pass, make it a journey to remember.
