The Indian Maharaja 

On our Indian Maharaja tours, our wonderful journey from Mumbai to Delhi takes us through the dramatic landscape of Rajasthan to the ancient Ellora and Ajanta Caves, the fascinating cities of Udaipur, Jaipur and Agra, the Ranthambore National Park and to the iconic Taj Mahal. Our transport - and luxurious hotel - for this journey is the Deccan Odyssey.

Introduced in 2004, the Deccan Odyssey is one of Northern India's newest luxury trains. Its décor and furnishings are designed to reflect the ways of the Indian royalty and the elegant interiors, combined with extremely high standards of service offer an unforgettable on-board experience.

The Deccan Odyssey is fully air conditioned throughout and has two opulent restaurant cars serving breakfast and dinner, with a menu featuring a range of Indian, Maharashtrian, Goan, Chinese and International cuisine. There is a fully-stocked bar car, lounge car, library and also a spa car, with a steam bath and a small gym. A range of beauty treatments and spa therapies such as Ayurvedic massage and facials are offered in the spa car (payable locally). Complimentary daily newspapers, magazines and mineral water are available and there is a weekly laundry service and daily money exchange facility.

The train is formed of 21 carriages, of which 11 each house four comfortable deluxe cabins and a lounge with a television and telephone. Deluxe cabins either have twin or double beds, a wardrobe with safe and an en suite bathroom with WC, sink and shower. Each coach has its own butler and 24 hour room service is available.
