Zell am See & the Eagle's Nest 2010
Idyllically perched on a small headland jutting out into pretty Lake Zell, the Grand Hotel is our home during this seven night stay in the heart of the Austrian Alps. We explore the Grossglockner Hohe Tauern National Park, The Eagle's Nest and beautiful Salzburg.

My highlight of the tour, albeit somber, was being in a place made infamous by its association with Adolf Hitler. Standing next to the fireplace so well known from the many photos of Hitler receiving visiting foreign dignitaries there gave an opportunity to reflect on a dark period of history contrasting vividly with the magnificent views just outside.
Staying in a hotel, Grand by name and nature, on the shores of a wonderfully scenic lake with a backdrop of mountains was one element of this trip enjoyed by everyone. Being able to return to such a delightful spot every day - or just to spend time around it - helped to recharge one's batteries.
The magnificent run to Grossglockner, stopping en route to admire the scenery as well as having your picture taken with a tame marmot, was fascinating. Not only the startling climb up through wonderful scenery but also the view of Austria's Pasterze glacier all helped to make this part of the tour a highlight for many.
