Explore Venice and the beautiful Dalmatian coast
From romantic Venice, we sail across the Adriatic to explore the beautiful cities along the Dalmatian Coastline. Our ports of call include some of Europe's most enchanting fortified towns, pretty fishing villages and ancient ports, including Kotor in Montenegro, Dubrovnik, Korcula and Mali Lošinj in Croatia and the Slovenian town of Piran.
We leave St Pancras International by Eurostar for Paris in Standard Premier Class after meeting at Great Rail Journeys' exclusive Departure Office. On arrival in the French capital, we cross the city and join the TGV to Lausanne. We spend the first night of our holiday here and dine together this evening. On Day 2 we continue our journey by rail into Italy, travelling to the romantic 'floating city' of Venice. We are greeted by the wonderful sight of the Venice Lagoon as we walk out of the railway station. We spend two nights at our hotel. Tonight we enjoy dinner together in a local restaurant.
Today we enjoy a walking tour of Venice with a local guide, taking in many of the city's famous sights. We begin in St Mark's Square, one of the world's most beautiful city squares. Here we see the Basilica di San Marco, Doge's Palace, the Procurator's residence, the famous Sansoviniana Bookshop and the iconic bell tower, as well as the waters of the lagoon that surround this iconic Italian architecture. Following our tour, your afternoon is at leisure.
This morning you are free to relax in Venice, soaking up the atmosphere and seeing more of the city's iconic sights. This afternoon we transfer to the port, where we board the incredible Star Flyer to begin our seven-night cruise. Day 5 is spent at sea, as we cross the Adriatic towards Dubrovnik, giving you time to take advantage of the superb facilities on board.
Today we enjoy magnificent coastal views as we approach the fascinating city of Dubrovnik. Referred to as 'the Pearl of the Adriatic', Dubrovnik is one of the most elegant and striking cities in Europe. You have the choice of two optional excursions today. Perhaps savour a 'Taste and Flavours of Dubrovnik' excursion to the town of Mali Ston, the 'oyster capital' of Croatia, to sample local seafood and other specialties. Alternatively, you could join the optional guided tour of the Old Town, or choose to explore independently.
This morning we sail along the beautiful Dalmatian coastline to the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro, arriving mid-morning. The ancient walled town was fortified during the era of the Venetian Empire, and its historic centre is remarkably well preserved. You can take an optional excursion to Perast, a small Baroque village, you have some free time to explore, before heading by boat to Gospa od Skrpjela, or 'Our Lady of the Rocks.'
Today we visit pretty Korčula. Set against the Dalmatian Coastline, Korčula is a welcoming sight. Jutting out impetuously from the mainland, the island joins with the azure blue of the Adriatic Sea, its terracotta roofs constantly fight for attention amongst the verdant and blue scenery around the town, and you have time at leisure here to explore. Alternatively, you can take an optional excursion to see the Bishop's Palace with sketches and drawings by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, followed by a wine tasting at a local vineyard.
This morning we visit Mali Lošinj. Many towns along the Dalmatian Coast pull off the quintessential Croatian axiom of sparkling blue waters, terracotta topped towns and verdant surrounding scenery, though none with quite as much precision as Mali Lošinj. You have free time to explore this exquisite town and wander through its winding streets, see the line of 19th century captain's town houses watch over the marina and perhaps stop for a drink at a café overlooking this glittering sea.
This morning we approach Slovenia during breakfast on board. Today we visit the exceptionally beautiful town of Piran, which sits on a small raised piece of land jutting out into the sea. Piran's architecture and style resembles an Italian coastal town, as it was part of the Venetian Empire for 500 years, until the end of the 18th century.
Our journey on the Star Flyer concludes this morning. Our final journey on board is the scenic sailing into the bustling port of Venice. We disembark the ship and transfer to the station, where we board the train to Turin, for the final night of our holiday. On Day 12 we travel to Paris, where we cross the city by coach to join the Eurostar to St Pancras International in London. A light meal and drinks are served on board the Eurostar, and our tour concludes on arrival in London.
Optional shore excursions are not included in the price of your tour and are payable on board the ship.
Provisional departure and return times, where available, can be found together with our dates and prices by clicking on the 'Prices & Availability' button.
