Our tour begins in Norwich at the beautiful St Giles House Hotel. This afternoon we meet for a guided walking tour of the Norwich's Old Town, including an absorbing history of the city over the centuries. The city has a fascinating heritage, with over 1,500 historic buildings, two cathedrals and a Norman Castle. (D)
This morning we take a local train along the Bittern Line, which is named after one of East Anglia's most famous resident birds, to the quaint coastal town of Sheringham. After some time for exploration we board the steam hauled North Norfolk Railway on the Poppy Line, for a journey through the verdant countryside to Holt. Here we are picked up by coach and transferred to Sandringham, the lovely country retreat of Her Majesty the Queen, set in acres of beautiful gardens and parkland. Day 3 is free for you to explore at your own pace. Visit the great shops in the town, have a look around the open-air market or venture further afield with a train ride to the coast. (Days 2-3-B,D)
Today we discover the true flavour of Norfolk, stepping back in time to visit the charming towns and peaceful countryside that makes this terrific county such an attraction. We travel by coach to the small market town of Wymondham, where we board the Mid-Norfolk Railway for a delightful journey on the restored railway line. Arriving in Dereham, we travel by coach to Aylsham for a journey on the Bure Valley Railway to Wroxham.The scenic journey through the beautiful Bure Valley countryside is hauled by a restored steam-engine and takes us into the heart of the Norfolk Broads, where we enjoy a boat cruise along the wide and picturesque waterways lacing this part of Norfolk. The magnificent Broads, 'Britain's Magical Waterland', provides the habitat for a stunning array of wildlife, much of it unique to Norfolk. (B,D)
