Perched on a rocky promontory, Luxembourg's centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site. On the morning of Day 2 we enjoy a guided tour of its main sights, including the picturesque Old Town, Constitution Square and the Palace of the Grand Dukes. The rest of the day is free for you to explore this fascinating city at your own pace. (Day 1-D; Day 2-B)
Today we head to Grevenmacher, where we enjoy a guided tour of a local wine cellar, followed by a tasting of the local wine. We continue to Remich, and embark on a cruise through the scenic Moselle Valley, passing some of the extensive vineyards that provide the supply for the region's fantastic wines. Our next stop is at Schengen, where we see the monument to the pioneering Schengen Agreement. We then make our final call at the beautiful spa town of Mondorf-les-Bains, before returning to Luxembourg. (B,D)
We travel by rail to Trier, Germany's oldest city, where you are free to explore. The Porta Nigra, a Roman Gate now designated a World Heritage site, is well worth a visit and other options include the birthplace of Karl Marx the Roman Baths and Amphitheatre and the stunning cathedral, Germany's oldest church. Today's panoramic coach tour heads through the scenic Mullerthal
region, also known as 'Little Switzerland'. We stop in the charming
town of Echternach whose narrow streets retain a medieval feel.
Continuing into the rolling hills of the Ardennes, we visit pretty
Vianden and its magnificent castle. We then head to the idyllic
village of Clervaux, where we visit its brooding Benedictine Abbey,
which dominates the town and offers a great panorama of the famous
Ardennes landscape. On Day 6 we take the train to
