Eurostar Our tour begins at St Pancras International, where we board the Eurostar service for the quick journey to Lille; our travel time is just one hour and twenty two minutes. We transfer to the Novotel Lille Centre, ideally located close to the historic city centre, where we spend the next three nights. After checking in, you are free to begin exploring the city and soaking up Lille's wonderful Christmas atmosphere - our early arrival time gives you plenty of time to enjoy the vibrant city and its exciting Christmas Market, which is held in Place Rihour. There are approximately 80 traditional wooden stalls and chalets offering gifts, decorations, mulled wine and tempting local cuisine. In the Grand Place you can enjoy a Ferris-Wheel ride for fantastic views over the city, This evening we dine together in the hotel. (D)
  • Day 2 - Brussels Christmas Market

    Brussels Christmas Market

Today we travel by coach to Brussels. The main market in Brussels is located around the famous Grand Place, one of Europe's most beautiful squares. As you explore the artisan stalls, why not be tempted by some traditional Belgian chocolate, or the aroma of freshly-made waffles. We spend the afternoon and early evening at Brussels market, giving you the opportunity to enjoy some local fare for dinner. (B)

  • Day 3 - The Battlefields of Flanders

    Menin Gate

This morning we travel north into the region of Flanders, which saw some of the fiercest fighting in World War I. We begin our tour of the area at Tyne Cot Cemetery - the largest commonwealth cemetery in Belgium, where nearly 12,000 soldiers were laid to rest. The cemetery is particularly poignant because as many as 70% of the graves contain the remains of unknown, unidentified soldiers. We then reach Ypres, a city which was almost completely destroyed by the four years of fighting and bombardments (from both sides) during World War I. Here we visit the terrific "In Flanders Fields" Museum. Located in the Cloth Hall, the museum includes a brand new permanent exhibition which tells the story of the invasion of Belgium, the first months of the Allied mobilisation and the four years of trench warfare in the region. After some free time to explore Ypres at leisure, we meet up this evening to enjoy an early dinner in a local restaurant. After dinner we walk to the Menin Gate - the famous 'Memorial to the Missing' - where we witness the Last Post ceremony. (B,D)
