Day 1 To Hyannis
To Hyannis

London to Hyannis

Meet your Tour Manger at London Heathrow this morning, to begin your wonderful autumnal adventure. From London, fly to the historic town of Boston, where you transfer by coach to our hotel in Hyannis. Here, enjoy a welcome drink, and take some time to settle in to your surroundings.

Day 2 Martha’s Vineyard
Martha’s Vineyard

Visit to Martha’s Vineyard

Today, venture forth from the hotel to take a ferry to nearby Martha's Vineyard. This beautiful New England resort is known to be the summer escape for New England's elite, and is therefore an incredibly beautiful and elegant place.

The 'Vineyarders', as the island's residents are known, are extremely protective of their heritage and traditions, making Martha's Vineyard seem gorgeously historic with a relaxing atmosphere. This island is also fairly untouched by the 'big businesses', which gives it a delightfully smalltown feel.

In the 'up island' area, you can find lovely, but sparsely-populated towns, with the more busy and fashionable area of Martha's Vineyard being known as 'down island'. You enjoy a coach tour of the sights of Martha's Vineyard before you cross back to the mainland and return to the hotel.

Day 3 Newport

Newport and Hyannis

Today, travel to Rhode Island, where there is free time in fashionable Newport. This elegant area is famed for its numerous historic mansions, and is one of the oldest towns in America, and the largest of the four original settlements. Perhaps enjoy the Ocean Drive Historic District, which is filled with stunning architecture. Alternatively, venture to Bellvue Avenue, known as 'Millionaire Row', and visit Hammersmith Farm, the childhood home of First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. This is also where she married future president, John F. Kennedy

After your time here, travel back by coach to Hyannis, where you are at leisure to enjoy your final evening in this area.

Day 4 Boston

Boston and Salem

A visit to Boston is on the cards today. One of the oldest cities in the United States, with settlement there being dated back to 1630, Boston has seen a myriad of historic events, including the Boston Tea Party, one of the events that led to the eventual independence of America from Great Britain in the 18th century.

We take a tour here, visiting the beautiful Quincy Market as well as the Freedom Trail, before we return to our hotel, stopping off at the infamously historic city of Salem. Here were the Salem Witch Trials, one of the darker chapters in America's history, which saw mass hysteria lead to the 'trials' of over two hundred men, women, and children.

Day 5 Mount Washington Cog Railway
Mount Washington Cog Railway

Mount Washington Cog Railway

Today, you enjoy a highlight of your tour on board the Mount Washington Cog Railway. Boasting the esteemed title of being the world's first cog railway, this enjoyable heritage train opened in 1869 and climbs the 6,228ft up Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Eastern States.

At the top, there are some truly incredible views across the stunning panorama of the surrounding White Mountain Range. There are a few other lovely sights to look out for on this journey, including the Franconia Notch and the Kancamangus Scenic Highway that is famous in the fall for being utterly surrounded by bright, multi-hued trees.

Day 6 Quechee Gorge, Vermont
Quechee Gorge, Vermont

The Fall colours of New England

Today is an undoubted highlight of our trip to New England, with a full-day Foliage Tour. Enjoy the incredible and ever-changing colours of the trees, famous worldwide for their stunning and vibrant changes from the lush greens of winter to the golds, browns, and bronzes of the autumn months.

Enjoy sights including Woodstock, a usually verdant area of beautiful Vermont. You also take in incredible Quechee Gorge, the deepest gorge in Vermont that is lined with a plethora of trees, perfect for viewing the changing season. Finally, take in more of the stunning Kancamagus Scenic Highway, taking in the parts of the highway that the Mount Washington Cog Railway does not cover.

Days 7-8 Amtrak

Homeward bound

This morning, transfer from your hotel in North Conway to Portland. From here, take a beautiful rail journey from Portland to Boston, where you can admire the stunning changing scenery through the windows of your comfortable Amtrak carriage.

On arrival, you have some time at leisure in Boston before transferring to Boston Airport, for your overnight flight back to London Heathrow. On arrival in London on Day 8, your tour comes to an end.
