Fairytale Castles & Bavarian Alps 2010
German rail holiday touring Bavaria’s castles, lakes and mountains
Pine forests and hidden lakes ringed by mountains; Bavaria is a summer playground. Visits to gingerbread castles and whimsical palaces set our fairytale theme, but our itinerary also features a rail journey up Germany's highest mountain.

One of the outstanding highlights of this tour must be Neuschwanstein Castle. Even in poor weather, the fairytale shape looming up out of the mist is a sight to behold and one can instantly see why it is associated with a "mad" king.
A "must see" part of the holiday is the behind the scenes tour of the Oberammergau Passion Play. Our guide was no less than Mary Magdalene from the 2000 staging of the play. In almost faultless English she brought to life the various characters and even showed us a few "tricks of the trade" employed in each production.
This is a special tour in that it blends a wonderful variety of scenery with fascinating glimpses of Germany in a relaxing way. As well as having plenty of time to explore Garmisch Partenkirchen, there is also an opportunity to visit Innsbruck with that all that the Tyrolean capital has to offer.
