Day 1 - To Bowness-on-Windermere

Your Tour Manager greets you in the 4-star Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel. After time to settle in, we meet for dinner this evening in the hotel's restaurant. (D)


Day 2 - Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway

This morning we travel by coach to Haverthwaite, where we board the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway to Lakeside on Windermere's shore. Here we take to the water, enjoying a relaxing steamer cruise across Windermere to Bowness. The final part of our day is a visit to the "World of Beatrix Potter" museum. (B,D)


Day 3-4 - The 10 Lakes Spectacular excursion

Today we travel by minibus for the '10 Lakes Spectacular' excursion, covering Ullswater, Buttermere, and Borrowdale. Magnifi cent scenery of mountains, valleys and lakes awaits us, as we travel over precarious passes, through dramatic valleys and past cascading waterfalls. The tour also includes a lake cruise and a visit to the 4,000 year old Castlerigg Stone Circle. Day 4 is free for you to explore at your own pace. Relax in Lindeth Howe's parlour library, stroll around its gorgeous landscaped gardens or enjoy the hotel's leisure facilities. (Day 3-B,D; Day 4-B)


Day 5 - Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway

We travel towards the coast to board the enchanting Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, passing between rugged hills dotted with sheep. We enjoy breathtaking views as the line climbs up the valley before we continue by rail to Carlisle, on the Cumbrian Coast Line, with dramatic seascapes to one side and the brooding fells of the Lakes to the other. From Carlisle we transfer to pretty Wetheral hidden away in the Eden Valley, for a two night stay in the Crown Hotel. (B,D)


Day 6-7- Carlisle Castle and Settle-Carlisle Railway

Today we visit Carlisle Castle and learn of its long and varied past as a border defence castle. On Day 7 we travel by coach to Carlisle to join the iconic Settle-Carlisle Railway. The 72-mile route takes you through the beautiful Eden Valley, before crossing the 24 arches of the awe-inspiring Ribblehead Viaduct and travelling into the magnificent Yorkshire Dales. At Skipton, we change onto the scenic line carrying us to Lancaster. Here you are free to say your goodbyes and embark on the journey home. (Day 6-B,D; Day 7-B)
