We depart St Pancras International by Eurostar to Paris, travelling in Standard Premier Class, with a complimentary light meal and drinks served on board. In Paris we join the train to Rouen (Standard Class). On arrival, we transfer to our hotel for six nights, the Mercure Centre Cathédrale, situated in the heart of the city. We dine together in a nearby brasserie. (E,D)
This morning we enjoy a guided walking tour of Rouen. We discover the many characters in the towns history including Joan of Arc, who was burned at the stake in the Place du Vieux Marché, and William the Conqueror, who died in the city in 1087. In the afternoon you are free to explore at leisure, and wander through the streets filled with pretty half-timbered houses. (B)
Today we take a coach to the beaches of Normandy, where we experience a poignant day exploring sites that literally changed the course of history during the D-Day landings. Our expert local guide will join us for the day, and will be on hand to describe the events and history of the area. We continue along the coast exploring some of the famous sights such as Juno Beach and Pegasus bridge. On our return to Rouen, we enjoy dinner in a local brasserie. (B,D)
You have the chance today to spend time exploring the ancient streets of Rouen, soaking up the local atmosphere, or discovering treasures such as the magnificent Palais de Justice. Don't miss the opportunity to visit Rouen's symbol - the elegantly arched and beautifully painted clock tower, 'Le Gros Horloge'. (B)
This morning we travel by coach to Giverny, home to the beautiful gardens of Claude Monet. Monet planted and painted here from 1883 to 1926 and the garden is most famous for its water lily pool, inspiration for some of his best known works. This evening, we enjoy dinner in a local restaurant, with a wonderful menu designed around seasonal local produce. (B,D)
Today is free - why not venture to coastal Honfleur or historic Caen? On Day 7 we take the train to Paris (Standard Class), to join our Eurostar service to London. (Day 6-B: Day 7-B,E)
