  • Day 2 - A taste of historic Bruges

    Bruges

This morning we discover Bruges and its rich history during a guided walking tour. Much of Bruges' beautiful medieval architecture has been preserved, and the city's historic centre is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. We then experience one of the country's most popular exports, with a visit to a chocolate maker. The rest of the day is free for you to explore Bruges as it is decorated for the festive season. You may wish to explore the charming Christmas Market, held in the city's main square. The small array of stalls is filled with gift ideas including chocolate, lace and local delicacies. Other options for this afternoon could include a tour of one of Bruges' breweries, a cruise along the pretty canals, or a visit to the Historium museum.

    Breakfast

  • Day 3 - Tyne Cot, Ypres and the Last Post

    In Flanders Fields Museum

After a morning at leisure, we travel by coach to Ypres, a medieval town that saw intense fighting during the First World War. On the way we visit Tyne Cot Cemetery, which is Belgium's largest war cemetery and one of the most famous sights associated with the war. We also visit the compelling 'In Flanders Fields' Museum. The fascinating museum details the invasion of Belgium, and the area's subsequent trench warfare. Following this you have some free time to perhaps explore Ypres' Christmas Market. Held in front of the Cloth Hall, the small market is decorated with trees and fairy lights, and offers many regional specialities along with warming mulled wine. Later we dine together in a restaurant in Ypres, before visiting the imposing Menin Gate. Here we see the moving Last Post Ceremony.
