Today take a scenic coach tour into the heart of the Black Forest. As the Black Forest is at the heart of the clock-making industry, we pay a visit to a cuckoo clock maker, to learn how these intricate clocks are made. At Triberg we enjoy the natural spectacle of one of Germany's highest waterfalls, as the thundering River Gutach makes a plunge of 535 feet (163m) over a series of frothing cascades. We have some time for lunch in Triberg before we board a train for a trip on the Schwarzwaldbahn Railway taking us past some truly breathtaking scenery as we travel to Donaueschingen. Here we join the Höllentalbahn Railway, and enjoy some stunning views on our way back to Titisee. (B,D)
We begin Day 3 with a morning cruise on Lake Titisee. The rest of your day is at leisure to relax, or perhaps go for a stroll through Titisee and its peaceful surroundings. Alternatively, you may wish to explore the Black Forest region, using your Hochschwarzwald Card. On Day 4 we take a coach to the town of Blumberg. Here we visit the small railway museum, before we join the Sauschwanzlebahn Steam Railway for a journey through spectacular scenery to Weizen, near the Swiss border. We continue through the forest by coach to St Blasien, a small village famous for its church, which features the third largest dome north of the Alps and whose Abbey dates back to the 11th century. (Day 3-B; Day 4-B,D)
We take a train to Freiburg on Day 5, a pretty city at the edge of the Black Forest. Here you are free to explore Freiburg's main sights including the Minster of Our Lady, a wonderful red sandstone Gothic cathedral. Day 6 is at leisure to explore further with your Hochschwarzwald Card. (Day 5-B,D; Day 6-B)
