We depart St Pancras International by Eurostar to Paris in Standard Premier Class, with a complimentary light meal and drinks served on board. On arrival, we cross the street to the Hotel Terminus Nord for an overnight stay in the vibrant French capital. On Day 2 we take the TGV to glamorous Biarritz on the Atlantic coast. We spend the next five nights at the elegant Mercure Centre Plaza. This evening we dine together in a local restaurant overlooking the ocean. (Day 1-E; Day 2-B,D)
This morning we enjoy a guided tour to discover Biarritz's history followed by a free afternoon at leisure. The town has 6km of beaches, making Biarritz an incredibly popular destination for over a century. Former regulars include Napoleon III and Empress Eugenia, Queen Victoria, Frank Sinatra and Ernest Hemingway. You could spend your free time exploring the town, or alternatively by finding a spot overlooking the water, enjoying a drink and watching the world go by. (B)
Today's highlight is a journey by classic rack and pinion mountain railway to the summit of La Rhune which offers a magnificent panorama over the Bay of Biscay and Atlantic Pyrenees. We then travel by coach to St Jean-de-Luz, a lively fishing port, where you can explore the town and its medieval centre at leisure - perhaps strolling along the delightful promenade. We enjoy a three-course lunch in a local restaurant in St Jean-de-Luz before we return to the hotel. (B,L)
You have a day at leisure in Biarritz. The resort, with its sweeping promenade and vast beaches, offers a range of activities. It boasts several museums, an aquarium, some fine churches, a lighthouse and the famous casino. If visiting the sites is not for you, Biarritz is the perfect place to relax and take in the ocean vistas. (B)
Today we travel by coach to Bayonne. Although lesser known than Biarritz, Bayonne is a gem and on our guided walk, we discover the typical Basque half timbered buildings and narrow streets of the old town. Tonight we enjoy dinner together in the famous Biarritz Casino. (B,D)
We leave Biarritz by TGV to Paris and cross the city by coach to join the Eurostar to London. (B,E)
