We depart St Pancras International on the Eurostar service to Lille. During our journey in Leisure Select Class we enjoy a complimentary meal and drinks at our seat. In Lille we join the TGV for the journey south to Avignon. On arrival, we transfer to our home for the next four nights, the Mercure Pont d'Avignon, which as its names suggests is close to the famous bridge. We enjoy dinner together in a local restaurant. We enjoy a guided tour of charming Avignon this morning, which includes a visit to the impressive Palace of the Popes and Pont St Bénezet, the broken bridge. Avignon's rich heritage is evident all around in the grandiose architecture and historic monuments, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. The afternoon and evening are free for you to explore the pavement cafés, elegant squares and delightful tree lined boulevards. (B)

This morning we travel by coach to the Pont du Gard, the worldrenowned aqueduct - one of the greatest remaining glories of the Roman Empire and a UNESCO World Heritage site. After a guided tour of the site we enjoy lunch at the Pont du Gard. This afternoon we continue onto Nîmes which boasts several Roman remains, including a temple and the well-preserved amphitheatre. Our guided tour will allow us to see the main highlights of the town. We return to Avignon for an evening at leisure. (B,L)

This morning you will have some time to explore Avignon further. Our final afternoon sees us take a relaxing cruise on the River Rhône to the lovely town of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The cruise includes lunch as we enjoy the passing scenery. Upon arrival in Châteauneuf-du-Pape we are taken by coach to a local vineyard for a tasting of this well-known wine. We rejoin the ship for the leisurely return to Avignon and as we approach the city, views of the Palais des Papes from the river are spectacular. We arrive back in Avignon early evening. (B,L)

We transfer to Avignon station and join the TGV service back to Lille. Here we rejoin the Eurostar to London. A complimentary meal and drinks are served on board before we arrive into St Pancras International. (B,E)
