We rejoin the ship for the leisurely return to Avignon and as we approach the city, the views of the Palace of the Popes from the river are spectacular. (B,L)
Today we travel to the stunning Pont du Gard, the world famous aqueduct - one of the greatest remaining iconic glories of the Roman Empire, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. We enjoy lunch at the Pont du Gard before our excursion continues to Nîmes, which boasts several Roman sites, including a temple and the well-preserved amphitheatre. We enjoy a guided tour of the town's main sights. (B,L)
