Days 2-3 - Exploring Avignon and a guided walking tour

This morning we enjoy a guided walking tour of charming Avignon, during which we visit the impressive Palace of the Popes and Pont St Bénezet, the famous broken bridge. Avignon's rich heritage is evident all around in the grandiose architecture and historic monuments, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. The afternoon is free for you to explore the pavement cafés, elegant squares and delightful tree lined boulevards ahead of dinner together this evening. On Day 3 you are free to continue exploring Avignon at leisure. (Day 2-B,D; Day 3-B)

Day 4 - A lunch cruise along the Rhône

Today we take a relaxing cruise on the River Rhône, enjoying lunch as we cruise through picturesque scenery to Arles, once home to Vincent van Gogh. As we arrive in this delightful city, it is easy to see how Arles inspired van Gogh to produce over 300 paintings and drawings during his time here. We rejoin the ship for the leisurely return to Avignon and as we approach the city, the views of the Palace of the Popes from the river are spectacular. (B,L)

Day 5 - The Pont du Gard and Nîmes

Today we travel to the stunning Pont du Gard, the world famous aqueduct - one of the greatest remaining iconic glories of the Roman Empire, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. We enjoy lunch at the Pont du Gard before our excursion continues to Nîmes, which boasts several Roman sites, including a temple and the well-preserved amphitheatre. We enjoy a guided tour of the town's main sights. (B,L)
