Swiss rail holiday with excursions including a Lake Geneva cruise

This is French-speaking Switzerland at its lakeside best, with all nights in comfort at one superior well-located hotel in South-facing Vevey. The views were spectacular on and around the lake and up the many mountain railways in our itinerary.

Customers' most popular longer excursions on free days were to Geneva, Les Diablerets and Zermatt, with numerous closer options by rail, cog-railway, ship, funicular and trolleybus, or simply lake-watching and shopping.

High-points were the unfolding scenery from the Golden Panoramic Express between Gstaad and Montreux and the 100-km all-round views at 6,600 feet from the Rochers-de-Naye (we saw the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, Aletschhorn and Mont Blanc). To have so much within easy reach of a single delightful base made a tour into a memorable holiday, not to mention the chateaux, cheese, chocolate, and the peaks and picturesque mountainsides everywhere we looked.
