Great Rail Journeys has received notice that Peter Deilmann Cruises will discontinue the European river cruise arm of its business at the end of this summer. The river cruise division of the German travel company went into administration on 25 June, with the company saying that the difficult economic climate, fluctuating exchange rates and declining passenger numbers were the main reasons.

Passengers booked on a 2009 river cruise with Great Rail Journeys are not affected, as the trips will proceed exactly as planned. Given the recency of this news, we are currently appraising our Cruising by Rail programme for 2010 and plan to launch this with our main European programme in September 2009.
