Maids Head Hotel, Norwich

Maids Head Hotel, Norwich

The delightful 4-star Maids Head Hotel, in the heart of Norwich opposite the Norman cathedral, dates back to the 13th century and is reputed to be the oldest hotel in England. Originally owned by the early bishops in the days of William the Conqueror, it is rumoured that in 1587 Elizabeth I slept here, and you can still walk into the hotel through the entrance used by stagecoaches in times past. We dine in the charming Courtyard Restaurant, and visitors can relax in the cosy wood-panelled bar, the oldest in Norwich. All 84 rooms are individually furnished and recently refurbished, with television, hairdryer and hospitality tray.
