Travelling on a Great Rail Journeys holiday as a Single Traveller is an ideal way to share your passion for new places with like-minded people who revel in the social environment that our holidays always provide.
In 30 years organising holidays by rail, we've seen hundreds of single travellers come back year after year to enjoy their holiday with Great Rail Journeys. For so many reasons, a group holiday by rail with Great Rail Journeys is an ideal choice for single travellers - which is why up to 15% of our customers are single travellers.
Holidays by Rail Exclusively for Single Travellers
To complement our range of holidays by rail, we are delighted to offer a collection of holidays by rail designed exclusively for single travellers. This unique collection has been created to the same high standards as all of our holidays, but specifically with the single traveller in mind. These are holidays that combine superb quality, unbeatable value and inclusivity, with a commitment to no single supplements.
Great Rail Journeys customers enjoy the camaraderie of discovering new places together, and the group environment is ideal for making new friends. Our holidays for single travellers are particularly designed to be sociable. Each tour includes a welcome drinks gathering on the first evening in the main destination to break the ice and make introductions easy. During the holidays we enjoy city tours and unforgettable excursions together, with a degree of 'space' built in for you to pursue your own interests or join others for a day out.
Friendship and Conversation
As a single traveller on a holiday with Great Rail Journeys, you'll never feel like you are alone. Every day on tour you have the option to be as sociable as you wish. Rail travel allows you to sit and converse with those around you, often across a table. Evening meals are social occasions where you'll find yourself on a large table with 6 or 7 others from the group. The size of our groups means that you can dine with different people every day and at every meal. Our meals are arranged so that we dine together at breakfast and dinner, while at lunchtime your Tour Manager will often suggest places for the group to eat, and will always make sure that, as a single traveller, you are looked after when you want to be. Such is the social nature of our tours, by the time you reach your first overnight hotel you will have found new friends to discuss the day with, and with whom you can plan the following day.
Our customers come in all shapes and sizes and our groups include a healthy mix of ages from 40-somethings right up to 80-somethings. Youthful in outlook, fellow passengers tend to be well-travelled with a passion for discovering new places and seeing the world. Whether the other members of the group are couples or other single travellers, you'll find them to be individuals who enjoy the social aspect of travelling within a group and will be only too willing to make you feel at home in their company.
On days when excursions are not planned into the itinerary, your Tour Manager will be on hand to suggest activities and excursions that you can take independently. However, if you prefer company, the Tour Manager can suggest excursions that you can take with other members of the group.
Comfort and Security in Numbers
Travelling alone can be a daunting experience, especially travelling abroad to new places with different cultures and unfamiliar language. This could not be further from your mind as you travel among a group, benefitting from the security and comfort that the group brings. Your professional Tour Manager will deal with the complex arrangements and will easily overcome any local language barriers - leaving you to enjoy the journey, the sights and the company of your new travelling companions.
Features of our Tours
A friendly, sociable Tour Manager
Your Tour Manager is, in many ways, key to the success of a Great Rail Journeys holidya and this is perhaps even more so on a singles tour. The Tour Manager will ensure that no-one is alone unless they specifically wish to be; so on free days a Tour Manager will make suggestions for the group, andi nvite you to come along with him or her for some informal sightseeing. And on a free evening, if dinner is not included, you are very welcome to join your Tour Manager and other members of the group for a meal at a local restaurant (payable locally).
Group dining
Meal times are a great chance to discuss the day's activities and to make preparations for the day ahead. We dine together on tables of 6-8 people - which make meal times the most sociable time of the day.
A full programme
