The Mississippi city of Tupelo is clearly most famous for being
the birthplace of Elvis Presley. There is a museum dedicated to
'The King of rock 'n' roll' that is filled with memorabilia and
tributes to the singer; the house where he and his stillborn
identical twin Jesse were born on 8th January 1935 is still
standing, and is a fascinating place to visit. The two-room house
was built by Elvis' father in 1934 and cost $150 to construct -
which was very little even at that time. Known as a 'shotgun house'
(apparently because a bullet would travel right through it), today
the house provides an interesting insight into Presley's humble
beginnings, as it has been furnished to look as it would have done
at the time of his birth.
