The city of Arnhem is best known as the site of the Battle for
Arnhem Bridge during 'Operation Market Garden' in the Second World
War - a battle recreated by the 1977 movie "A Bridge Too Far". The
city was favoured through history by the Dutch nobility. During the
19th century it was a genteel resort, famous for its picturesque
beauty.
Today, the city is still known for parks and green spaces. The
Arnhem War Museum covers the entire period of World War II, from
the years of occupation to the Battle of Arnhem and ending with the
liberation by Canadian troops in 1945. A vast array of uniforms and
equipment is on display, including original vehicles.
