Vibrant and bustling, Cai Be's floating market has been a standard tradition of the Mekong Delta region for centuries. With the landscape offering obvious challenges - and often with seasons of flooding - standing markets could never be held regularly. Instead, it was decided that markets could just be held full-time on floating craft, as even in drier seasons a market could still take place continually.
Nowadays, very little has changed from the initial floating markets; everyone from wholesalers to small traders comes here, most specialising in just a few types of fruit or vegetables.
