Rail Tours in Vietnam

Delve into the history, culture and spirituality

Travelling through Vietnam by train is an eye-opening experience. The country is largely agricultural, especially for rice cultivation, and you will see many of the rural communities with farmers tending to acres of rice paddies on a Vietnam rail tour. Much of the country is mountainous with dense tropical forest covering the landscape. There is mile upon mile of rugged coastline which is dotted with golden secluded beaches, each resembling a little slice of paradise. Vietnam is the easternmost country on the Indochina Peninsula and has a compelling history which you will no doubt discover more about when you visit. Its capital city is Hanoi which is home to a whole host of interesting sights such as the Temple of Literature, the iconic One Pillar Pagoda and the Quan Thanh Temple which you may get to visit during a Vietnam rail tour.

There are some exceptional places to travel to in Vietnam. Ha Long Bay is perhaps one of the most famously breathtaking sights, consisting of around 3000 towering islands that emerge vertically from the emerald sea in the Gulf of Tonkin. It has rightly been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list and it may be possible to take a cruise around the maze of islands on a Vietnam rail tour. Another place that is worthy of a boat trip is the stunning Mekong Delta, where the Mekong River enters the South China Sea, splitting into hundreds of intertwining tributaries across a vast area.

Besides visiting the capital Hanoi on a Vietnam rail tour, you may also get the opportunity to visit Ho Chi Minh City, known to most as Saigon. This is the largest city in Vietnam and is a buzzing metropolis of commerce and culture. Wander the stalls laden with silk and spices in the markets, visit the Old Colonial Quarter and see the contrast between ancient buildings and contemporary designer malls and gourmet restaurants. The city of Hue is also a fantastic place to go sightseeing on a Vietnam rail tour as it is filled with lavish palaces, tombs and temples, including Vietnam's tallest temple, Thien Mu Pagoda.
