About Me
I became a Tour Manager after working in the NHS for several years: most recently having a national role in the Cancer Action Team. Prior to this I worked for two different charities as an advocate and advice worker for vulnerable people in the community. I have always had a very keen interest in travel abroad and, before becoming a Tour Manager, I had a maxim to 'never visit the same place twice until there is nowhere left to see'. However, despite having travelled extensively, my list of places to visit is still rather long! I enjoy every aspect of travel from the journey itself to the culture, history, food and geography.
Favourite tour
My favourite tours are the Glacier Express tours. The daily rail excursions in Switzerland are incredibly varied, both in terms of rolling stock and landscape. The tours are equally wonderful all year round and the Swiss Pass enables customers to visit a wide selection of places from the two base towns on free days. All in all, a wonderful introduction to Switzerland.
Hobbies
I am a member of various musical theatre companies and thoroughly enjoy participating and helping backstage whenever I am at home. I am also a member of 'Singlive Northern' and have performed as a soloist within this 300-strong choir based in Leeds. In my spare time I also enjoy walking (especially in the mountains of Europe), home renovation, modern dance and cookery.
Travel Advice
'Light and easy' - the importance of packing thoughtfully and using an appropriate suitcase can't be overstated. Many countries are not well-equipped with escalators and lifts and luggage may have to be carried up and down stairs and lifted onto trains. I always put together a wardrobe using one main colour with matching accessories, thus reducing the amount I need to take. I take three pairs of comfortable shoes and ensure my clothes can be worn in layers to match the climate.
