“What are Tour Managers and what do they do?”

Our Tour Managers
Great Rail Journeys has a team of approximately 250 self-employed Tour Managers, many of whom have worked with us for a number of years. Every Tour Manager is a courteous and friendly professional. They are sociable, organised and unflappable. Their backgrounds are varied and include business, social service, teaching and the travel industry. It goes without saying that they are passionate about travel, and eager to help you fill your journey with fond memories. They are good listeners, good conversationalists and good company.
What the Tour Managers do
Your Tour Manager meets you at St Pancras International, UK hotel or the airport and remains with you throughout the holiday. They look after every aspect of your holiday while you are away, taking care of the logistics and ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Very often any local issues that have arisen are resolved before you are even aware of them! They are also there to help you enjoy the experience in your own way and are never far away if you require their expertise and assistance - but they will fade into the background if you prefer to travel more independently.
Local Guides
Our local guides know the best places to eat and the must-see sights, meaning that you are able to make the most of your time in each destination. They work with our Tour Managers, bringing their intimate knowledge of the local language, history and culture. They are always ready to answer your questions about local sites of interest and share their passion for the area.
